Chalcanthite, loosely translated from the Greek words, means "copper flower". These beautiful lab grown crystals mimic naturally occurring formations.

Any sulfate rich ground water that might leach out copper from other copper minerals, will crystallize chalcanthite when the water has a chance to evaporate. In many copper mines, chalcanthite is an ongoing precipitate forming blue encrustations, crystal aggregates, and stalactites right on the sides of the mine's shafts.

Chemistry: CuSO4 - 5H2O, Hydrated Copper Sulfate
